What is Japanese Straightening?

Japanese Straightening, also known as thermal reconditioning, is a thio-based chemical procedure which uses heat to restructure the hair's protein bond, enabling those with frizzy, curly, or wavy hair to experience permanently straight hair while at the same time preserving the health and improving the feel, texture, softness, & shine, leaving the hair completely manageable.

Will my hair be pin straight?

Not necessarily. With the Lisicio thermal reconditioning system we have the ability to customize the amount of curl you would like to control. Depending on your hair type, we are able to relax excessive curl while maintaining fullness and body. Or if you prefer, we can make it permanently straight.

I have frizzy hair. Will it help to control that?

Yes, with the Liscio treatment not only will your hair be permanently frizz free, your hair will have incredible sheen as well.

How is it different from a Brazilian Blowout?

We have a lot of experience doing both services. The Brazilian Blowout is a temporary smoothing treatment that works great on certain hair types. Japanese straightening/thermal reconditioning is a permanent smoothing treatment that offers much of the benefits of a Brazilian Blowout. But because it is a chemical service that is permanent, it is far more effective on extremely curly, unruly and frizzy hair. How long will the Liscio Thermal Reconditioning last?

Once the hair has been thermally reconditioned it will remain relaxed or straight until it grows out and/or is cut off. Touch ups generally need to be done from 4-8 months or even longer.

Will it damage my hair?

Aside from having a knowledgeable and experienced technician, having a superior product is very important. That said, your hair will be as healthy after your treatment as before, and even better! Your hair may need a deep conditioning treatment prior to your TR service to insure optimum results. Follow up conditioning treatments are highly recommended for all JS clients to maintain the general health and luster of their hair and is included with your first Japanese straightening treatment.

What about after care maintenance?
Proper maintenance of you hair after a Japanese straightening is essential in keeping your hair healthy long after you have left the salon. I recommend specific products according to your hair type that have been proven to help keep your hair as healthy as possible. These recommended products are backed by my personal money back guarantee. It is also important not to use any hair clips or tight pony tail holders that will cause tension that may cut the hair. Excessive heat from ironing tools must be avoided as well. I will also coach you on the proper styling methods when dealing with your regrowth before it is time for you to get your touch-up.

I am African American. Can I do a Japanese straightening over my hair that has had a relaxer?

The Liscio thermal reconditioning system is excellent for African American or any other ethnic hair type. The difference of the condition of the hair that has been previously straightened with a sodium hydroxide relaxer and a Liscio Japanese straightening is amazing. Your hair will be healthier, stronger and have luster and shine like you have never seen before. However, if you currently have a sodium hydroxide relaxer on your hair you will require a special consultation to discuss details on how we will help you to get the optimum health back to your hair while converting from a relaxer to a Liscio TR.

I have tight 3C-4C type curl. Do you have to treat it any differently?
Yes. This type of curl tends to be more delicate than looser curl. The technique for performing the Japanese straightening must be very precise in its application and varies slightly compared to loose curl. I have more than 10 years of experience with Japanese straightening and approximately 35-40% of our clients are of this curl type.
